Press ReleasesNovember 2009Local Bahá'ís plan Holy Day The Bahá'ís of Carlton meet monthly to share prayers and food, and to discuss the activities of the community. The gathering held on Wednesday at the home of Mr and Mrs Hedayati heard a report from Mr Dallas Simpson of the plans for the forthcoming Holy Day. The celebration of the birth of Baha'u'llah, Founder of the Bahá'í Faith will be held on November 11. The community look forward to welcoming the Mayor of Gedling and Bahá'ís from neighbouring communities, to the Holy Day celebrations. There was also discussion, introduced by Mr Godfrey Nix, on the nature of elections in the Bahá'í Faith. He explained that according to the teachings, there is no canvassing or nomination. The election in December will be for a delegate to National convention taking place next April. During the discussion, Noushin Agahi rehearsed some children's songs with the children on themes of love, justice and service, which will be performed at the Holy Day. September 2009 Deputy Mayor of Gedling visits Carlton Bahá'ís This month's meeting of the Bahá'ís of Carlton, held at the home of Mr and Mrs Hedayati, was attended by the Deputy Mayor of Gedling, Mrs Pat Blandamer and her husband. Mr Dallas Simpson introduced the Bahá'í Faith to the guests and explained the three parts of the meeting - the devotional, the consultation and the social. During the devotional part, prayers were read by the Deputy Mayor and several of the Bahá'ís including two read by children. The community then consulted on activities for the coming months, with Mr Godfrey Nix announcing some events that had been arranged and outlining meetings that were being planned. These included study groups, childrens' classes and the forthcoming Holy Days. Suggestions and offers of help were made by members of the community. At the end of the meeting, the children sang songs which the adults were encouraged to join in, and refreshments were served. |
